My interest in Palaui Island in Cagayan was initially piqued by an episode of GMA’s Unang Hirit, where the theme du jour was 10 promising Philippine eco-tourism sites (and just in case you’re wondering, Boracay isn’t one of them. Boracay is the exact opposite of eco-tourism).
As the guest gushed over how the still virginal Palaui features a complete suite of ecological wonders – including a 10-kilometer stretch of cream shores and crystal clear waters, the majestic Barutbut falls, and verdant mountains that serve as vantage point to the rugged terrains, islets and breaks below – I can not help but be intrigued at this fairly new discovery.
The photos on the net leave one absolutely smitten.
Declared as a natural marine reserve, Palaui boasts 50 hectares of unspoiled reefs, and is also home to a vast array of shrubs and migratory birds. Because of its remoteness, there is not one commercial building, lodge or accommodation available on the island. People who wish to stay overnight must pitch tents and brave a 45-minutue boatride amid strong waves of the South China Sea.
Another place added on the bucket list. I wonder when I can slash another one off.

Just been there a few days ago… Splendid place though summer had reduce the water in the Falls… We just climbed it anyway to the top… Had a nice swim in Crocodile Island too. A place to feel rustic and simple which will melt the stress of life in the fast lane… Soothing elegance 😉
