Day Tripping to Punta Fuego

Point of Fire.

That’s what Punta Fuego means.

Overlooking the sea: Peninsula de Punta Fuego infinity pool

But to the feisty soul, Punta Fuego may not be exactly be the perfect emblem of  fire and infernal beauty. Comprised of  high-end, private beachfront properties and surrounded by tranquil waters, this huge peninsula over at Nasugbu, Batangas is closer to laid-back and serene than it is to chaos.

Reputed as a premier luxury destination, this upscale community consists of smaller exclusive beach resorts, namely Club Punta Fuego, Peninsula de Punta Fuego, and Terrazas de Punta Fuego. A similar property by the same company (Landco), Playa Calatagan,  lies in nearby Calatagan and offers almost the same facilities.

To maintain its exclusivity, only members, landowners and their guests (or those endorsed by members) are allowed access to the community and its amenities. My family, together with Jigs and some relatives had a taste of the highly-coveted life on 2 day trips sponsored by an aunt.We certainly couldn’t afford a trip there on our own, with the steep membership tag and all (Was informed membership alone costs a million pesos. Members need to pay a monthly fee of P3,000 on top of that to retain their privileges).

Roaming around the vicinity, one will find lofty beach houses nestled uphill, overlooking the sea, most of them bearing their own infinity pools and humongous lawns filled with jetskis, ATVs and luxury cars.

What’s fun about Punta Fuego is that the amenities are not clumped in one location alone, but are scattered all over the peninsula, each of them offering first-class facilities and amenities. Because they are contained within the same community, guests could conveniently hop from one place to another and enjoy all of the amenities in a single day.

If you’re expecting for pristine waters and powdery white sands that are characteristic of Boracay, though,  Punta Fuego may be a bit of a letdown. The beach itself is typical of Nasugbu beaches – greyish and unimpressive, with some parts being rocky. What sets it apart is not the beach itself, but the privacy it offers coupled by grandiosity and state-of-the-art amenities, including their famous infinity pools – which are probably among the best ones in the country.

There are two infinity pools in the area: a double-infinity pool down by the Peninsula de Punta Fuego clubhouse, and another near the Terrazas Beach Club. Both blend perfectly with the ocean in the background, yielding the illusion that they are contiguous with the Pacific.

Terrazas de Punta Fuego, which is just a stone’s throw from the Munting Buhangin Resort (one could actually tread Munting Buhangin on foot), features seaside condominiums and a beach club. It lies only ten minutes away from Peninsula de Punta Fuego, an 88-hectare resort dressed in lavish Spanish-Mediterranean architecture.

Food at the clubhouse is pricey although none of them were otherworldly in taste (except for that rich pumpkin soup they serve in little jiggers. Sobrang bitin!). Other amenities include a golf course, tennis courts,  a beach club, a country club, posh villas, a marina and a variety of shops.

How to Get to Punta Fuego:
Punta Fuego can  be accessed  only via private transport, as no public vehicles go directly inside the gated community.

Take the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX), then exit to Tagaytay. Make a right at the Tagaytay Public market and just go straight past Alfonso, Cavite. Turn right at marker 93, going to Balayan Town. This path leads you past the Nasugbu town proper, Munting Buhangin, Terrazas de Punta Fuego and the Ternate-Nasugbu road. Just follow the signs leading to Club Punta Fuego.

Plying the Tagaytay-Nasugbu route, the trip from Manila to Punta Fuego takes approximately two hours.

    Hi Sis,

Ask ko lang how your aunt endorsed you to be their guest sa Punta Fuego? Does she need to be there or kasama nyo sa trip para makapasok kayo?

    Thanks!

Hi dear. Actually on both instances kasama namin siya, then pag papasok ng gate she just presents a card then tells the guards her name and yung lot number ng lote niya. Pero I think if di niyo kasama yung member mismo, it's still possible to use the facilities as long as she/he sent an endorsement form to the punta fuego management and informed them beforehand. Hope this helps! 🙂
