If the name rings a bell, it’s probably because they’ve got every corner from GMM to Bulacan lined up with massive ad posters of the “refurbished” resort. Too, it has been featured in various morning and noontime TV shows such as Unang Hirit. Makes me wonder if the place is worth a second try, because a great getaway it wasn’t, a few years back.
Dubbed as the biggest resort in Bulacan, Jed’s Island Resort spans over 8 hectares in size and boasts 11 swimming pools, 300 cottages, a man-made lagoon and other nice-to-have amenities. There are a variety of pools, alright, but some of them seem to have been neglected already. The waters were turbid and the tiles were stained with filth and algae.
This is why we nicknamed it Jed’s Lumot Resort; lumot seems to have a special place in this Calumpit resort. They thrive in the pools as well as that mucky man-made fishing lagoon. I wouldn’t even dare throw a rod there. I probably wouldn’t catch anything other than janitor fish anyway.
Jed’s man-made fishing lagoon: more muck than fish
On the other hand, the hanging bridge overlooking the lagoon was refreshing and made it more picturesque than it truly is.
I’m also not so hot about the overall design of the place, particularly the cheap multi-colored paint that hovered the walls, poles, pools, roofs and virtually every corner of the resort. It made the entire place look like a huge kindergarden classroom verging on neurotic. Maybe the resort wouldn’t be such an eye sore had they toned the colors down a bit.
At the souvenir shop: suits and bones
I know. He can be gross sometimes.
But was it really necessary to put oversized genitals on that hog?
Aside from the humongous kiddie pool and and the lap pool with dive board – which was flocked by rowdy hordes of jologs youngsters like it was solely intended for their pleasure – there’s nothing exceptional about this resort (Now you understand why I always indicate minimal jologs sightings in resort reviews whenever applicable. This particular crowd of attention-hungry kids have a tendency to spoil an otherwise good vacation.)
Behind the sister-in-law is the lap pool with dive board
The good news is, the resort only charges P150 per head for adults and P120 for kids. Open cottages like ours (not that there are other types of cottage, anyway)start from P300 up. Guests are allowed to bring in food, no corkage required. But for a rate like that, I’d rather go to DJ Paradise or Sitio Lucia. Or better yet, add a hundred more and head out to 8 Waves in San Rafael.
